Stress Awareness Month, observed every April since 1992, is a crucial initiative aimed at raising public awareness about the causes, effects, and management of stress. In our increasingly fast-paced world, stress has become a common part of everyday life, yet it remains a topic often overlooked or misunderstood. Stress Awareness Month provides an important opportunity to break the stigma around mental health, promote stress management strategies, and encourage healthier, more resilient lifestyles.

Stress Awareness Month is a nationwide campaign dedicated to educating people about stress, its impact on mental and physical health, and the tools available to help manage it. Throughout April, mental health organisations, healthcare providers, workplaces, and community groups come together to share information, resources, and support aimed at reducing stress and improving overall wellbeing.  Stress can have a profound impact on various aspects of life, contributing to conditions such as anxiety, depression, heart disease, and weakened immune response. By increasing understanding and promoting open conversations about stress, this month encourages individuals to prioritise self-care and seek support when needed.

Mates in Mind charity exists to improve the mental health and wellbeing of workplaces across the UK.  They work with organisations to improve the mental health of their workforce by providing the skills, clarity, and confidence to employers on how to raise awareness, improve understanding and address the stigma that surrounds mental health.  Mates in Mind have created a suite of resources to support organisations not only during Stress Awareness Month, but also to create a comprehensive and ongoing programme of support.
